Born in 1917 the second son of John and Sarah Ellen Pearson.
Address at the time of death, 2 Prospect Place, off Manchester Road Swinton. Johns mother had just picked up a letter from behind the front door from him when there was a knock at the front door. It was a telegraph boy delivering the news that John had died. He was killed in a Lorry accident whilst involved on a four day training exercise, possibly in Norfolk. He had been due home on leave within the month.
John had served four years of military service, firstly with the 7th Devonshire Regiment, transferring to the South Wales Borderers, Royal Welch Fusiliers, attached to the 9th Battalion.
As a boy he attended St. Peters School, Swinton and was a member of the Manchester Road Methodist church for where he played cricket.
