Thomas Vipond was born locally on the 4 January 1920 and employed at the onset of WWII as a Tinsmiths labourer, he lived with his father and step mother at 6 Princess Street, Swinton. John Vipond remained living here until his death in 1959.
Son of John Hugh Vipond an engineering works storekeeper, and Rose Vipond (Hogg) the couple had married at St Peters in 1915 John himself had enlisted in WWI and was a Corporal in the Lancashire Fusiliers, they first lived at 75 Dorning Road, Swinton where their a son John was born in 1916 sadly passing away the same year. Rose passed away in 1922 age 34, John remarried the following year to Eleanor Styling the daughter of a shop keeper.
